Time For Some Easy Mulled Wine History!

The concept of warm spiced wine is traditional throughout much of Europe. From Germany’s Glühwein to the Nordic Glögg each country has their own variation.

Although there is no “set” recipe for mulled wine, there are some key elements that are must haves to capture the classic flavour; namely cinnamon, allspice, clove, anise, and orange peel.

Traditionally these ingredients are steeped in the base wine along with sugar and cooked down slowly to extract their flavour and aromas. This usually takes time and can only properly be done in large quantities.

However, there is an ingredient that contains most of these flavours in a convenient, ready to use bottle, and that is Angostura Bitters.

Turning Cordial in to (Almost) Instant Mulled Wine!

And it’s the addition of Angostura Bitters to Jolly Festive’s easy mulled wine cordial that is essential! With that, you are basically able to create a “mulled wine concentrate”.

Add a couple of spoonfuls to a cup of red wine, heat in the microwave and there you have it –the perfect single serving of mulled wine, ready faster than you can say Jolly Festive’s easy mulled wine cordial!

We do recommend re-heating in the microwave to minimize any lost to evaporation but heating on the hob is just fine as well.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick, orange slice and star anise pod and you have Christmas in a cup!
