We have designed this advent calendar as a paper chain for a little extra festive flair.

You could hang it from a door handle or on the Christmas tree.  It’d be a great visual prompt for the littlies to see Christmas Day getting closer as the paper chain gets shorter.

If you don’t want your paper chain to shorten, why not simply turn the strip around (so the joke is on the outside) and reattach it at the other end.  Then you can grab the whole chain on Christmas Day morning and remind yourself of your favourites as you share them with your family and friends.

There’s no need to make the calendar into a paper chain either if you don’t want to.  Simply hang the strips on the fridge door, down the banisters on the stairs or even from a decorated coat hanger, and pick a joke to read each day.

How To Make A Paper Chain Joke Advent Calendar

Print the two joke pages on paper or thin card.  Tip: don’t use thick card as it’s harder to make the coils of the paper chain stick.  Cut out the strips.

Take a strip at random.  Twist it into a circle with the joke on the inside and attach a little glue, tape, or a paper clip to secure it in place.

Take the next strip and weave it through the first before making it into a circle and securing.  Continue until all the strips have been connected in a line to form a paper chain.
