Stepping into The Little Christmas Shop of Ironbridge will transport you across the Channel and down into the mountains as you discover a little piece of snowy alpine Switzerland buried deep in the Shropshire countryside.

Less than a stone’s throw from UNESCO World Heritage Site Ironbridge, the store was opened in October 2020 by cousins and fellow Christmas enthusiasts Kim & Emily. ‘We were crazy and set up a business in the middle of a pandemic’, laughs Kim.

The Little Christmas Shop Story

Kim is a lady after our own hearts with a garland full of ornaments collected from her travels around the world.

She and her husband Christopher have another store in the village and Kim had had her eye on the Little Christmas Shop’s spot for some time.

So when the property became available at the same time as her cousin Emily mentioned a desire to move on from her job in teaching, it was clearly meant to be!

Christopher helped make the dream a reality, painstakingly layering wooden slats across the interior walls to create the log cabin design.

The effect is extremely endearing and perfect for the size of the store, making for a very festive welcome. And matched fabulously to its friendly owners, ready to welcome you inside.

A lovely selection of ornaments are available for sale – from handmade felt Christmas puddings to cracker hat wearing brussel sprouts, and everything in between – supplemented by some bespoke products specifically for Ironbridge.

Emily designs and hand finishes wood slice mementos of the local area whilst Christopher adds mini pewter bridge statues to snowglobe baubles.

Emily and Kim are clearly loving their new venture.  ‘We’ve been nominated by Gisela Graham for best newcomer for The Greats Retail Awards’, they tell me excitedly. ‘We’re off to London later this week for the ceremony.’

And the recognition is much deserved.  Four days after opening the country dove back into lockdown for a second time and the duo were forced to think creatively how to keep their fledgling business afloat.

Now in full flow however they are looking forward to their first fully operational festive season (fingers crossed!) as well as their pop-up shop at the Polar Express steam train experience nearby in Telford.
