The Nutcracker Christmas Shop

Well Shakespeare may have preceded Christmas celebrations as we know them today but since 2004 the playwright’s birthplace has stood directly opposite the welcoming Nutcracker of this year-round Christmas store.

Housed in a gorgeous part-timbered building, the Nutcracker Christmas Shop is part of the only British-owned chain of all-year Christmas shops.

The family-run business is owned by Robert and Shirley Newman who are based near the Crieff store in Scotland. Robert comes down to Stratford each week but the rest of the time it’s local manager Steve at the helm.

And indeed, after 17 years at The Nutcracker Christmas Shop, Steve can certainly attest to the lifelong impact that the store has had for him as he met his wife whilst both were working there!

The only Christmas shop wedding perhaps?!

Bagpipe Christmas carols were playing in the background as we visited.  And this paired with the exposed wood beams, darkened interior and stone floor certainly made you feel as if you’d been transported to a Olde World Christmas movie set for your festive shop.

With guaranteed tourist footfall, the store is able to support a wide range of Christmas products.

There’s a fabulous array of ornaments on sale – both traditional and more quirky, arranged by colour around the store.

And, for those looking for something more, there’s tableware, candles, advent calendars and plenty of other Christmas extras to take home to add to your décor collection.
