Less wasteful, more wonderful! What’s not to love about reusable Christmas crackers? Here’s 17 of the best eco crackers on the market for 2022!

We’ve all had enough of the classic junk-filled cracker, haven’t we? Sure, we love the snap, the corny jokes and the annual discussion about who’s got the biggest head. But unless you get mini screwdriver set, that’s where the fun ends.
For the amount of waste they create, crackers should really play a bigger part in our festive celebrations. So, we for two are loving the cracker revolution that’s currently underway. More and more big companies are going plastic-free with their cracker offering. And there’s been a boom in the number of indie businesses designing beautiful reusable crackers for our Christmas tables.
Hurrah! But where to begin choosing yours…?!
Don’t worry, we’re here to help with our guide to 17 of the best eco-friendly Christmas crackers for 2022. (You’ll be pleased to know that you don’t have to break the bank or forego the snap as there’s a Christmas cracker for everyone!)

Exactly How Wasteful Are Christmas Crackers?

It is estimated that a staggering 40 million Christmas crackers end up in the bin on Christmas Day. I know I’ve been guilty of scooping all the cracker waste – fillers and all – into the bin straight after dinner (except the mini screwdriver set of course). 😐
So, whilst it’s firmly part of our festive traditions to start Christmas dinner with a bang, it’s time to either make those crackers step up and be truly celebrated or let’s bid farewell to the whole wasteful affair.
Why Do We Pull Crackers At Christmas?

Ever wondered why we pull crackers at Christmas? Well, it was confectioner Tom Smith who created the first Christmas cracker in 1848. Inspired by Parisian bonbons wrapped in paper twists, he decided to replicate a similar design in Britain.
Legend has it that the ‘crack’ was added as Tom watched his fire one evening and thought the pop and crackle sound would be a great addition to his new invention. Victorians replaced the sweets with paper crowns and small gifts. And so the modern day cracker was born.
Time for the next evolution of the tradition…
