Candy Cane Shape Hack

So we’re sure that your spatial awareness is far better than ours and you can free form a candy cane shape with ease.

But just in case, we’ve got a simple hack for you to use!

  1. Cut out a candy cane shape on a piece of paper.  Make it as big or small as you wish depending on the size crowd you’re feeding.  We used two pieces of A4 card for our stencil as we wanted a generous board.  To help you out, we’ve created a simple A4 Candy Cane Stencil ready to download.
  2. Lay the stencil on your board and sprinkle icing sugar around the edges.
  3. Carefully remove the stencil (keeping it flat to avoid icing sugar spilling) and ta-daa … you have a candy cane outline to fill in.

As well as being super simple, the outline looks snowy (festive tick!) and adds a tiny sugar dip for anyone who fancies indulging (elf tick!).

Individual Candy Canes

If you’re feeding very small mouths or a very small number, you might prefer to make an individual candy cane with just one layer of strawberry – banana slices.

Get them right and they look super cute.  Get them slightly wrong and they will certainly give the adults much to laugh about.

A couple of tips:

  1. Try to use equal size pieces of strawberry and banana.  That probably means just using the fatter end of the strawberry.  So throw the tips into a fruit salad or, even better, a berry & candy cane gin!
  2. For the pieces around the curve at the top of the candy cane, try to slice on a slight diagonal to help form the shape.
