Candles & Fairy Lights
Candles and fairy lights are a really lovely way to create warmth and atmosphere.
Battery fairy lights can be woven in amongst greenery, put into vases, wound round branches or simply laid on the table to create a cosy feel.
The flicker of candles are a simple yet effective addition to a Christmas table and can be purchased in yummy Christmas scents.
There are so many different shapes, sizes and styles of candles so have a real good rummage for some that you like the look of.
Adding Greenery to Your Christmas Table
There is so much wonderful fresh greenery around at the moment. Get your coats and wellies on, gather up the kids and go for a walk with a bin bag and a pair of secateurs and see what you can find*.
There are some lovely berries on a lot of the greenery at the moment which add a very Christmassy feel to the table.
Simply lay the greenery down the centre of the table or make into a garland or a wreath for a feature.
If you find the green a bit harsh, or it doesn’t quite work with your colour scheme, then give it a really light spray with a silver or gold spray paint – it’ll tone down the green whilst adding a bit of sparkle.
*Whilst a few cuttings of fir, a small sprig of holly and a few pine cones from your local park should be absolutely fine to take home, please do remember to always ensure you follow the guidelines of the land owner when foraging. No plant or other living thing should be uprooted and you may need the explicit permission of the land owner before taking anything.
Table Place Settings
Make your guests feel special.
Have a good look for some pretty napkins to pop on the table, or if you’re feeling creative get some Christmas fabric and make some.
Why not add a name tag to each person’s place setting – there are some lovely place card holders online or make your own by tying a little gift tag to a bauble or fir cone.
These can be such fun! Make your own, use reusable crackers or find some with treats inside that you know will be loved!
Think about what your guests really like and get creative. It’ll be lots of fun on Christmas day pulling the crackers and seeing everyone receive a treat that they will actually enjoy!
Another tip we would recommend is adding some colour to your branches.
Spray painting a few of your pieces of foliage in metallic shades can give a really sparkly festive touch.
Purchase flower & foliage spray paints such as these and use on items such as dry winter hydrangea, berries or foliage.
extra flourishes for your Christmas table decorations
There are sooo many fun, crafty things to do with or without the kids.
Have a look on Etsy for some inspiration and get everyone involved in making things that can be used as table décor.
I’ve recently seen some fab stand up Christmas trees for the table made out of cardboard, snowmen made out of loo rolls, button and old socks and reindeers made from simply card and red pompoms.
It’s something for the kids to get involved with over the holidays or something for you to enjoy in the evenings with a glass of mulled wine!
So, have fun getting creative with your Christmas Table Decorations! And do share with us what you decide to add to your table in the comments below.
