behind the scenes
Dive in to this Vegan Oreo Hot Chocolate!
So having shared the fabulous 2-ingredient Oreo hot chocolate recipe, we got to thinking -isn’t there a vegan hot chocolate option here too that would be just as delicious..?
But before we dive head first into this tasty vegan Oreo hot chocolate, let’s address the elephant in the room!
Are Oreos Vegan?
There’s a lot of dispute online about whether or not Oreos are actually vegan…
Many websites state that while they may not be made with “clean” ingredients, milk’s favourite cookie does not actually contain any animal products and is therefore suitable for vegans.
However, Oreo’s own website states that there may be some milk “cross contact” and therefore they do not class themselves as vegan on their packaging.
Considering the above, we chatted to a few vegan friends to get the low down on whether we could, and should, be creating a vegan Oreo hot chocolate?!
The result was unanimous…
They all stated that they consider Oreos to be vegan and therefore we set out to develop our vegan Oreo hot chocolate!! Happy slurping!

What Vegan Milk Should I Use?
While this recipe uses almond milk and vegan squirty cream in place of the dairy alternatives, please do not feel the need to stick to this closely. If cashew milk or oat milk are more your speed then 100% feel free to make the switch!
Just One Important Rule!
Our only recommendation…don’t play around with the Oreo amounts and ratios. They’ve been tried and tested to give the ultimate Oreo flavour without any gloopiness! No one has time for that in a vegan Oreo hot chocolate at Christmas!
