‘and it happened to be painted red’
The Jingle Bells Christmas Shop Story
Christmas-enthusiast Lisa opened the shop with her partner Derek on April 1st 2011, embracing the inevitable bah-humbug comments at the arrival of a year-round festive store in the town.
Already owners of gorgeous Pencil Cottage opposite, Lisa had been running a pop-up Christmas market in the tearoom there each autumn as the summer season drew to a close. ‘We’ve still got the original banner actually which went over the front of the shop saying ‘Christmas at Pencil Cottage’’.
So when Jingle Bells’ current building became available ‘and it happened to be painted red’, added Lisa with a smile, it was meant to be. ‘It’s been phenomenal’, she added, ‘I don’t think anyone expected it to be as successful as it has been.’
